Volunteers play a vital role in helping the people we support learn a new skill, make new friends, and participate in the community.
There are three ways to volunteer with the Village of Merici: Special Events, Merici City Rides, and Programs.
Each one has a coordinator who will get you started, and each one fits a different kind of schedule. You are welcome here whether you have a Saturday afternoon, a weekday morning, or one evening a month.
Three ways to volunteer.
Merici City Rides
Merici City Rides pairs a volunteer driver with an individual with disabilities in Lawrence, Indianapolis, and Carmel. Curbside pick-up and drop-off, one-way or roundtrip. Volunteer a little or a lot, whatever fits your schedule.
Learning Opportunities
Volunteer to help the People we support through Learning Opportunities, such as Book Club, cooking classes, financial literacy training, or movie nights. Bring something you know how to do, and we will find a way to share it.
Special Events
Volunteers provide support for our fundraising and special events, which helps Village of Merici develop new programs and housing. Setup, registration, food and drink, cleanup. A few hours, a few times a year.

Merici City Rides: driving with us.
For many adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities, one of the greatest obstacles is not being able to drive. Popular on-demand transportation services are too costly, and city bus routes are difficult to navigate. Merici City Rides pairs a volunteer driver with a rider, and the result is reliable transportation to work, to a class, to a friend’s house.
- A retired neighbor with time on weekday mornings
- An at-home parent during school hours
- Anyone whose commute could include a stop along the way
- A criminal background check
- A drug screening
- A short, online driver training program
- A meeting with the rider to coordinate availability
Learning Opportunities: classes that need a volunteer.

- Book Club moderator
- Lead a movie or game night
- Assist with yoga or movement classes
- Assist with Gardening Club
- Lead an arts or crafts project
- Participate in one-on-one or small group social activities
Learning Opportunities are available at no cost. You do not need to be a resident or receive services through Village of Merici to participate.

Our signature events are the Euchre Tournament in February, the Carmel Golf Outing in August, Porch Fest in August, Concert for a Cause in August, and Bingo Night in September. Each one needs hands. If you want to see a specific event before you commit, the calendar will show you what is coming.
